The Fairmont Senior boys’ soccer team fell for the first time in the young 2013 season Thursday night.
The Linsly Cadets notched three goals, all in the first half, to take down the Polar Bears.
The Cadets were aggressive on offense early on as they seemed to keep the ball on Fairmont Senior’s side of the field for most of the first half. Their first goal came from the foot of junior captain Mason George at the 27:31 mark.
The second goal of the game came just after the midway point in the first half when Jae Wook Ahn drilled a shot past the Polar Bears’ backup goalkeeper, Miseal Guerrero, to make the score 2-0 in favor of Linsly. The Cadets would add one more goal before the half was over behind the leg of Sung Bok Yoo, with just under 9:00 to play.
Senior Ben Posin, who played all over the field for the Cadets, looked very calm with the ball throughout the game. Posin’s position is listed as “all” on the team’s roster, and he showed just why that is in Thursday’s contest, setting up a number of shots for his team en route to the win.
Linsly controlled the ball for most of the first half, taking 15 shots on Guerrero, who was filling in for David Childers. who wasn’t at the game due to a personal matter. Guerrero, though, made three tough saves in the second half to keep the score manageable.
