DeVaul earns All-Mon Player of the Year

FAIRMONT — He has many names — “Polo,” “Captain,” “Mr. Clutch” — but in this City of Fairmont where he reigns as king, he is simply known as “Fletcher DeVaul.”

This year, DeVaul helped carry the Polar Bears to a state runner-up finish; he accumulated the highest batting average in the history of FSHS; and he has earned every honor that is known to exist in the high school baseball world.

But today, DeVaul is earning yet another award. He has been selected as the 2013 Times West Virginian All-­Mon baseball player of the year.

“I really appreciate this award,” DeVaul said. “Being able to see that individually I had a good season is a nice way to go out.”

    As Fairmont and Post 1 Wheeling stepped onto the field for a rematch with the stakes much higher than their previous meeting at the American Legion state baseball tournament, the ball was placed into Fletcher DeVaul’s hands.
