Sure, a win is a win and on Saturday, North Marion’s girls’ basketball got another.
But Mike Parrish wants more. That’s what happens when you’re a championship coach three times over and have a young, talented squad some feel is capable of contending in Class AA.
“We want to get better,” Parrish, who won three straight AAA state crowns at North from 2009-11, said. “We want to win and get better, and sometimes we take steps backward.”
While Saturday’s matchup with Pocahontas County was no step backward in a literal sense — the Huskies, after all, notched a 59-52 win and improved to 5-1 — the veteran coach wasn’t real pleased at how his team closed things out.
“We had a 20-point lead and then we started playing like we were behind,” Parrish said of his team, which was up 52-31 after three periods. “Firing up shots, turning the ball over and we quit playing defense and we’re standing around and not rotating."
