Polar Bear boys take regional swim crown

FAIRMONT — Over the years, Fairmont Senior’s swim program has had that innate ability to rise up late in the season — and in some cases, accomplish much more than what was first expected.

Well, it happened again at Saturday’s Region II meet.

In a new regional venue at Shepherd University’s Wellness Center and a pool they hadn’t ever dipped their toes in, the Polar Bears simply kept with the program’s winning ways.

The FSHS boys defended its 2012 regional crown with another team title, the girls had a second-place finish overall.

The Polar Bear boys rolled up 129 team points, well ahead of runner-up Jefferson (113) and third-place Musselman (82).
