Tyler Walter making most of opportunity in college

FAIRMONT — Take the opportunity and run.

That’s exactly what former Fairmont Senior first baseman Tyler Walter did during his freshman season at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland.

“I wanted to get an opportunity and needed to prove that I belonged,” Walter said. “My coach saw something in me and he wound up starting me at first and batting me fifth behind our big four-hole hitter. He set me up for RBIs and to be successful.”

The 6-2 first baseman showcased more than his glove for the Hawks; he also brought his stick.

Walter tallied a .352 batting average, while drilling 11 doubles and two triples and accumulating 46 RBIs.
