Grafton’s standout tennis player is now off the market.
Hailey Rogers is an official member of the Fairmont State Fighting Falcon tennis squad, and she is ecstatic to call Fairmont home.
“I really can’t wait to get involved with the university and play tennis in college,” Rogers said. “I’m ready to go at it full force.”
Rogers was recruited by schools from across the country and in the surrounding area. Her phone was constantly ringing — schools from South Carolina and North Carolina, as well as West Virginia Wesleyan, Alderson-Broaddus and Fairmont State were interested.
“Recruiting time was definitely stressful, but it was also neat seeing that teams wanted me,” Rogers said. “At a point there were so many schools, so I knew that I needed to make a decision. I had two schools in South Carolina, one in North Carolina and then Fairmont, Alderson-Broaddus and Wesleyan. I had all of those schools in Grafton talking to me, so it was definitely stressful.
“In December, it hit me all at once because I knew I needed to be selecting the school of my future. That’s when I chose Fairmont State University. I saw so much opportunity at Fairmont, from their beautiful campus, to their accredited classes and the wonderful tennis team. Coach (Janet) Floyd and I really hit it off and I just felt like I was a perfect fit for their program.”
