EFHS’s Roman signs with West Liberty

Wrestler hopes to carry winning ways to college

PLEASANT VALLEY — East Fairmont’s undefeated (54-0), 195-pound Class AA state champion wrestler Jesse Roman has signed with Division II West Liberty University.

Though it may seem as if it were easy for Roman to achieve his collegiate status, he’s overcome adversity that made him the best wrestler in the state a year ago.

His hunger began as a freshman with the Bees. The lightweight, inexperienced Roman came onto the wrestling scene with high hopes, but more losses occurred than he expected.

That’s when Roman created goals for the next three years.

The opportunity to begin my professional career in an area that I’ve become comfortable with for the past several years was too good to pass by.

    But I did read a lengthy story on his 45-minute address to reporters last week on Media Day in Dallas, Texas. Among other things, Bowlsby forecast a startling change threatening the existence of intercollegiate athletics as we have known for these many, many years.
