West Virginia University is in the process of renegotiating men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins’ contract to give him more money while extending it past its current 2019 expiration date, according to a story in today’s Charleston Daily Mail.
Athletic director Oliver Luck estimated the contract would be completed by the end of the year.
"I think what ultimately any athletic director wants for his or her programs is to have stability, and that stability is important because of recruiting and because of fan interest," Luck told the newspaper.
"I think by and large, people around the state think the world of him and they're excited about him being their coach in the Big 12."
Huggins is working under an 11-year, $27.5 million contract that pays him $2.3 million this season.
Huggins is 59 and last season became the 20th Division I coach to win 700 games.
