Before each game, East Fairmont girls’ soccer coach Mark Harvath says a prayer by himself in which he asks for the health and safety of his players, but never for a win.
He made an exception before Thursday night’s game against Lincoln. Because it was senior night, he wanted a victory to send his upperclassmen off right.
“I asked for a win tonight,” Harvath admitted. “I’m guilty.”
East Fairmont held tight against the Cougars, but a win just wasn’t in the cards at East-West Stadium, as the Bees fell, 1-0.
Lincoln senior midfielder Emily Knight scored the lone goal in the 24th minute to give the Cougars the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Pride kept the Bees in the contest by turning away nine shots, including a sliding stop on a Lincoln breakaway in the 23rd minute.
“I had a great game out of my goalkeeper tonight,” Harvath said. “She was going through some freshman trials and tribulations, but she came back and played very very well tonight.”
