Polar Bears use big bats to whip Elkins, clinch Big 10 title

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior’s baseball team clinched the Big 10 championship Friday with a 14-5 win over Elkins in its regular-season finale.

Big bats were the story for the Polar Bears, who are 22-6 in all games and undefeated in the conference.

FSHS had 18 hits, eight doubles and a home run.

Fletcher DeVaul had three hits, including a three-run homer and a double, and drove in six runs. Ryder Skarzinski contributed four hits, including three doubles, and two RBIs.

Matt Robbins had two hits, three runs batted in and a double. Michael Parker had two hits and two RBIs. Jonathan Leeper had a single and an RBI. Brandon Plivelich doubled. Gage Hannah had two hits and an RBI double. Jayce Riley doubled. Johnny Kesling singled.

Andrew Strand pitched the first four innings and allowed five hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

Robbins allowed two hits and two runs, one earned, in two innings. He had one walk and two strikeouts. Austin Norman struck out two in the final inning.

Sectional play starts at 5 p.m. Monday with East Fairmont facing North Marion at 5 p.m. at North. Fairmont Senior will then play the winner.
