Thee Fairmont State University baseball players earned All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors, the league announced Wednesday.
Barnette, a native of Core, earned second-team All-WVIAC honors. Nick Mayle (Grafton) and Trevor Funk (Culpepper, Va.) were All-WVIAC honorable mention selections.
Barnette batted .274, starting 47 games for the Falcons. He scored 25 runs and had 40 hits for FSU, and was also a potent force in the outfield throwing out four runners from right field.
Mayle was first among all relievers in the WVIAC with seven saves. He had a 3-2 record and struck out 23 batters in just 23 innings of work. He made 16 appearances on the year.
Funk was Fairmont State’s starting shortstop, batting .281 and driving in 22. He also was 18-of-19 on stolen bases and scored 25 runs. Funk had a fielding percentage of .927.
Seton Hill’s Nick Sell was named the WVIAC Player of the Year while his teammate Alex Haines has been voted the WVIAC Pitcher of the Year. The Griffins’ Marc Marizzaldi garnered WVIAC Coach of the Year accolades as voted on by league coaches.
