It’s a safe bet you can expect fireworks anytime Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont’s boys’ basketball teams get together on the court.
And Thursday night’s meeting was no different. It had all the marks of a classic East-West clash — an electrifying dunk, big 3-pointers, a scoring milestone and yes, extremely physical play.
It was the Polar Bears’ Travon Horton scoring 12 points, including a pair of late free throws with under a minute remaining, to reach 1,000 points for his career and led FSHS to a 45-34 victory over East.
The win was also the Bears’ 10th in a row.
“It was a hard-fought win,” FSHS head coach David Retton said. “Any time you get a win against your city rival it’s a big deal. It’s a good win.”
