Even in a season after three straight state titles, a 2011-12 campaign in which most would term a rebuilding year, North Marion’s girls’ basketball program stood tall.
For the most part, the Huskies beat the teams they were supposed to beat and hung tough with others, taking their lumps against top Class AAA programs like Huntington, Wheeling Park and state finalist Bridgeport.
Veteran North coach Mike Parrish feels those combined experiences — win and lose — will make the Huskies stronger going forward. And with a full year of varsity games under their belts, the team’s returning players look to take the next step forward and become a state tournament contender in their first season in Class AA.
“I thought we were competitive last year,” Parrish said. “We didn’t lose to a bad team. We had a good summer, worked hard and have a lot of new kids. It’s a good mix of young kids and kids with experience. We’re looking forward to it.”
