Ciarolla, West boys win NCAC cross country

MORGANTOWN West Fairmont’s David Ciarolla picked a good time to finally get by North Marion’s Zach Tennant.

Ciarolla cross the finish line in first to win the North Central Athletic Conference championship and lead his Polar Bear teammates to the overall team title as well.

Ciarolla finished at 16:13.03 ahead of Tennant who crossed at 16:51.16.

The Polar Bears won the title with 70 points. Preston was second with 75, followed by University (87), Morgantown (88), North Marion (99), Elkins (130), Buckhannon (135) and East Fairmont (173).

In addition to Ciarolla, the Bears were paced by Patrick Stanton (6th, 17:22.09), Gannon Flowers (13th, 17:40.50), Joseph Vozniak (16th, 18:01.13), Zach Herberger (34th, 19:51.84) and Jacob Richards (44th, 20:35.29).

The Huskies were also led by Jeremy Gouzd (11th, 17:37.27), Neil Bland (15th, 17.54.10), Kenny Burnley (30th, 19:20.61), John Craw (41st, 20:19.60), Brooks Russell (45th, 20:44.01) and Justin McDonald (50th, 21:04.60).

East Fairmont’s top finisher was Michael Ebbert in 12th (17:39.93). The Bees were also led by Earnest Scott (36th, 20:02.67), Justin Speelman (38th, 20:07.89), Ronnie Cosco (40th, 20:13.49), Hunter Wood (47th, 20:55.01) and Kyle Blosser (48th, 20:58.79).

In the girls’ race, Preston’s Ari Kasprowicz blew away the field to earn the individual title at 18:33.81.

University won the team title with 46 points, followed by Morgantown (69), Preston (76), North Marion (120), Buckhannon (140), Elkins (141), West Fairmont (141) and East Fairmont (186).

The top Marion County finisher in the race was North’s Jordan McDonald in 6th at 20:24.59.

In addition to McDonald the Huskies were led by Marcie Mason (21st, 22:11.93), Cassy Menas (28th, 22:48.52), Kelly Humphreys (30th, 23:08.68), Brittany Reynolds (35th, 23:26.73), Paige Tuttle (40th, 23:53.79), and Sarah Ray (43th, 24:31.04).

East Fairmont was led by Megan Wilson (25th, 22:40.89), Michaela Luckey (27th, 22:48.27), Debra Smith (38th, 23:40.05) and Rebecca Haught (47th, 25:11.63).

Chelsea Clark led West Fairmont with an 8th-place finish at 20:52.29.

In addition to Clark, the Bears were paced by Alyssa Scherich (15th, 21:27.33), Olivia Duke (33rd, 23:22.80), Meaghen Broadwater (41st, 23:59.36), Tori Hawkins (44th, 24:38.46) and Alyssa Ruberto (45th, 24:42.68).
