After a four-year career as a member of Fairmont Senior’s Lady Polar Bears’ basketball team, Makelle Paige was looking to continue her career at the next level.
She found Southern Virginia University, a small Latter Day Saints-based school in Buena Vista, Va., and knew it was the right place for her.
The former Polar Bear signed to play basketball for the Knights Friday at Fairmont Senior.
“It’s close to home; that was something I was looking for,” Paige said. “They have an LDS atmosphere, and that was important. It’s about 700 students and is owned by a Mormon family. They have the standards and guidelines I was looking for. Really the only other place that has that is BYU, and Utah is too far away.”
