Fairmont Senior’s late rally fell short Saturday evening when the Polar Bears were defeated by Scott, 66-59.
The Polar Bears got off to a slow start. They shot just 19 percent in the first half and fell behind by 13 points.
Scott stretched the lead to 44-27 in the third quarter, but the Polar Bears rallied. They cut the lead to just four, 63-59, with 31 seconds remaining. But that was as close as Fairmont Senior would get.
Sophomore guard Darhius Nunn sparked the comeback with a career-high 22 points, 18 of which came from 3-pointers. Fellow sophomores Michael Holloway and Joseph Leon also finished in double figures. Both put up 11 points.
Blake Cehajic (eight points), Issac Childers (four points) and Tavon Horton (three points) also made their way onto the stat sheet for the Bears.
The loss drops Fairmont Senior to 1-2 on the season. The team will look to get back in the win column Friday against University High at Robert C. Byrd’s holiday tournament.
