— East Fairmont’s girls’ basketball team picked up a crucial Big 10 win Thursday by defeating Elkins, 46-28.

Brooklynn Weaver led the Bees with 17 points.

“She’s a special player,” East Fairmont coach James Beckman said. “This was a special night for her.”

Also in double figures for East Fairmont was Felicity VanGilder, who scored 16 off the bench.

The Bees trailed the Tigers, 18-11 at the half but made a number of adjustments at the half. It payed off when the Bees controlled the tempo and the game in the second two quarters.

The win improves the Bees’ record to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the Big 10. East Fairmont travels to St. John’s Catholic Prep in Maryland on Saturday.

“We’re young, but we’re getting better every day in practice,” Beckman said. “Every game is a building block toward February.”
