East Fairmont’s Colin Harvath has quite the leg.
When East Fairmont’s boys’ soccer team took on Lewis County last Thursday, Harvath led it straight to victory with one of the most coveted feats in soccer: a hat trick.
Harvath knocked in three goals en route to a 7-1 victory for the Bees.
His most impressive goal came with the score deadlocked at 0-0. The Bees were throwing the ball in and Harvath seized his opportunity. He kicked the throw in out of the air and into the goal, starting things off right for East Fairmont.
Just one day later, Harvath traded his soccer gear for his football gear and traveled with the Bees to take on the Liberty Mountaineers.
As the Bees found themselves matching the Mountaineers’ drive-for-drive for most of the game, Harvath played his role. As the Bees’ kicker, Harvath was tasked with making extra points after each touchdown. He did so successfully on four of four tries for a perfect night.
Had he missed just one extra point, the game wouldn’t have gone into overtime and the Bees would have gone home with a loss instead of a win.
In each instance, Harvath led the Bees to their first victory of the season. It brought the boys’ soccer team to 1-1 and the football team to 1-0.
The Bees soccer team will play at home against Williamstown at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The football team is off until Friday, Sept. 13, when it plays on the road against Nicholas County at 7:30 p.m.
For his outstanding play in both sports this past week, Harvath is the Times West Virginian’s athlete of the week.
