FAIRMONT — Big games have led to big moves in this week’s boys’ basketball poll released by the Associated Press on Monday. Here’s the breakdown:

LOOKING BACK: No. 5 Westside picked up two quality wins, downing No. 2 Bluefield and No. 3 Wyoming East. The loss was only the second for each team. No. 6 Bridgeport also took down No. 9 Fairmont Senior during the week, 73-40. Liberty (Raleigh) fell twice this week, losing to Shady Spring and Nicholas County. And Roane County lost to Tug Valley, 59-51. Other than those losses, the rest of the teams in the top 10 won, including Robert C. Byrd, which picked up two wins over the course of the week.

KEEP IT MOVING: With Westside coming in and cleaning house, it moved up from fifth to second in this week’s poll. With the losses, Bluefield fell from second to fourth and Wyoming East fell from third to fifth. That gave way for Poca to move up one spot from fourth to third. With Bridgeport’s win, the Indians took sole ownership of the sixth spot, moving Chapmanville to seventh. With losses, Liberty (Raleigh) and Roane County each dropped from the top 10 while Fairmont Senior was able to stay in at the final spot.

NEWCOMERS: Petersburg and Nicholas County each were able to move into the top 10 this week after looking in from the outside the past few weeks. Petersburg picked up two wins by double digits over Lincoln and Frankfort while Nicholas County beat No. 8 Liberty (Raleigh) by 25 points as well as Summers County and Sissonville.

BIG 10 KEEPS FIGHTING: The teams in the Big 10 Conference continue to stick around in this week’s poll, ranging from the top spot to the final spot. RCB remains atop the poll while Fairmont Senior closes it out and Bridgeport sticks around in the middle. The Flying Eagles are 12-0, the Indians 9-3 and the Polar Bears 5-6.

BIG MATCHUPS: Another week packed full of action is upon us this week. No. 1 RCB will play Fairmont Senior on Wednesday and No. 6 Bridgeport on Saturday. No. 3 Poca will play No. 9 Nicholas County twice, once on Wednesday and once on Friday. No. 2 Westside will play No. 5 Wyoming East again on Friday. And No. 4 Bluefield will battle AAA No. 6 Greenbrier East.
