East Fairmont’s boys’ basketball team has had its ups and downs this season. This past week was no different.
Jake Delaney came through in both games for the Bees and was voted this week’s player of the week in a close weekend of voting by readers.
In Wednesday’s game against county rival North Marion, Delaney scored a team-leading 17 points for East Fairmont.
Two days later, Delaney helped the Bees en route to an upset win over No. 6 Bridgeport, 48-45, on the road. Delaney scored 11 points in that victory.
The win helped improve the Bees to 4-8 and propelled them into Saturday’s action with some momentum.
Not usually known as one of the Bees top scorers, Delaney has picked it up when his teammates have needed him as he averaged 14.0 points per contest over the two-game stretch.
For his strong week, Delaney has won this week’s I-79 Joe Romeo’s Times West Virginian high school player of the week and will receive a coupon for a free appetizer from the Applebee’s of Fairmont.
