East Fairmont earns redemption against Fairmont Senior, advances to regional: PHOTOS

FAIRMONT — It was redemption time for the East Fairmont Bees as they faced Fairmont Senior in the boys’ sectional championship match.

Two weeks ago, the Polar Bears pulled out a one-point victory, but Saturday night it was the Bees who took home the win, 2-0.

East Fairmont did what it does best in the match, controlling the ball for the better part of the game. This put the Polar Bears, who are generally a low-scoring team to begin with, on the ropes and put the Bees in the driver’s seat.

“We’re not just going to sit back and try to not lose the game,” East coach Fred Roman said after the win. “We’ve been pushing the ball all season. I just told the boys at halftime, ‘Get one more but don’t think for a minute that we’re going to stop putting the pressure on them,’ and that’s what got us here and you saw the result.”

The Bees took a first-half lead with a goal from the foot of Colin Harvath.

Harvath and Fairmont Senior keeper David Childers collided, but Harvath snuck free and took advantage of an open goal.

“We gave them that goal; it was basically a gift,” Fairmont Senior coach Jim DeNardi said.

After the first-half lead, the Bees came out the same way they finished.

With just under 22 minutes left, Levi Perkins added the nail in the coffin and the Bees cruised to a 2-0 victory.
