Post 17 gets bats rolling in 13-5 win

PLEASANT VALLEY — Post 17 Fairmont coach Marty Morgan wanted his team to come out with intensity against visiting Wheeling Saturday in game one of a doubleheader. It’s safe to say his team answered the call.

Fairmont strung together 13 runs on 11 hits, including three home runs, to secure a 13-5 victory in the first game.

Trailing, 2-0, after a tiresome top half of the opening inning, Fairmont rallied its bats.

With two on and one out, Johnny Kesling drove in the team’s first run on one of his three hits to get the ball rolling.

From there, Travis Smith reached on an error, Keegun McCullough walked, James Bolander hit a two-run double and Ryal Jolliffe hit a two-run single to give Fairmont a 6-2 lead and the team would never look back.

Fairmont added two runs in the second, a run in the fourth and two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings to pile the runs on.

At the plate, Kesling led the charge, going 3-for-3 with two RBI including a solo shot in the fourth inning. Austin Norman and Smith each added two-run bombs before the game was over. Bolander and Jolliffe each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

On the mound, Bolander picked up the win after going five strong innings upon coming in in relief for Norman, who started the game. Bolander scattered six hits while allowing two runs.

For Wheeling, Nate Bakatias went 3-for-4 with three singles on the day.
