Needless to say, its been a while since Fairmont Senior’s girls’ basketball program traveled up the Husky Highway and beat North Marion.
The Polar Bears’ last win in Rachel came well before Corey Hines took over the team, and even prior to North Marion’s three-time state champion squad beginning its run of domination as freshmen.
The streak, though, came to an impressive end Saturday night.
Fairmont Senior battled back from a mistake-filled first half with some inspired play after the break, erasing a double-digit deficit en route to a 69-63 victory.
“It’s been a long time,” a smiling Hines said after the contest.
And in the game’s early stages, it appeared North (1-1) would simply continue its run against a county rival.
After all, Fairmont Senior committed 10 turnovers in the first quarter alone and had 16 by halftime.
