Greely shines for Bees

FAIRMONT — One thing East Fairmont’s boys’ basketball team has is size. The biggest player on the squad came through with the team’s two biggest performances this past week.

Nick Greely stepped up for the Bees and was voted this week’s player of the week by readers.

In last Saturday’s game against Liberty (Harrison), the Bees won 69-34. Of those 69 points, Greely scored 21, nearly outscoring the opponent by himself.

Later in the week in a 46-44 loss to rival Fairmont Senior, a game which was decided in the final seconds, Greely again went to work. The 6-foot-6 sophomore center scored 21 points once more, with 15 of those coming in the first half.

Greely, who has been known to rattle the rim with dunks, can also use his skill on the perimeter and ball-handling skills to maneuver around defenders and get to the basket. It showed this week as he averaged over 20 points per game.

For his strong week, Greely is this week’s I-79 Joe Romeo’s Times West Virginian high school player of the week and will receive a coupon for a free appetizer from the Applebee’s of Fairmont.

To vote for next week’s player of the week, go to www.timeswv.com after Friday night’s action and click on the Player of the Week tab in the blue menu bar.
