Morgantown High 61,
Fairmont Senior 54
Morgantown High School put an end to Fairmont Senior’s 5-game winning streak Saturday, knocking off the Polar Bears, 61-54.
Fairmont Senior (10-8) started the game strong. It never trailed in the first half and stretched the margin to as many as six.
But the Mohigans (10-9) jumped on the Polar Bears in the third quarter, outscoring them 17-10 to take a 39-34 lead heading into the final quarter. They extended their advantage to 53-40 with 5:30 remaining.
The Polar Bears countered by scoring 12 unanswered points to cut the deficit to 53-52.
That was as close as Fairmont Senior would get, though, as Morgantown hit its foul shots down the stretch to close the game out.
Jacob Casalinuova helped spark the comeback. He scored a season-high 18 points, all of which came from 3-pointers. Darhius Nunn and Isaac Childers added 11 points each.
The Polar Bears will host Lewis County Monday at the Armory.
