Bears getting heated up for cross country

FAIRMONT — What does it take to be one of the best cross country runners in Marion County?

The answer? Put on your Nike running shoes and run. Don’t stop, but run — run until your legs feel like jello and your body feels like death.

It’s a passion for few and an enemy for many. Running is one of the most hated things to do for athletes all over, but for Fairmont Senior’s Matt Strand, it’s a way of life.

“Running is something you either love or you hate,” Strand said. “If you can find someone who loves it, then people text and they show up.”
