Young, but intense.
North Marion’s wrestling squad is coming off a Big 10 title from just a year ago, while also faring well in the Class AAA state wrestling tournament with a 10th-place performance.
Even though the Huskies lost five key starters who were a part of the 2011-2012 team, the team and coach Dave Tennant are amped for the start of the 2012-2013 season.
“It’s hard when you lose five seniors, who were all quality kids, but we have a good mix of young athletes on the squad from last year,” said Tennant. “Plus our freshman class features 10 wrestlers who’ve wrestled before. It is rebuilding in a sense, but when you have kids coming in who’ve been on the mat before, that’s an advantage.”
Leading the charge and becoming new captains among all the youngsters are Ryan Elliott, who landed a fourth-place finish in the state in the 120-pound weight class, and Tyler Arnett, who tallied sixth place in the 170-pound division.
