East Fairmont’s Myles Johnson stepped up when he needed to the most.
The 6-foot-5 junior forward was battling foul trouble for most of the game in last week’s regional game at Roane County but drained key foul shots in the game’s closing seconds and blocked a shot by Roane County’s Scottie Meadows that would’ve won the game had it gotten past Johnson’s palm and into the net.
Johnson shot 8-of-10 from the floor for the game, scoring 19 points in a 70-68 win over Roane County which sent East Fairmont to the state tournament for the first time since 2001.
He also had six rebounds in the game.
For his strong performance, Johnson was voted this week’s I-79 Joe Romeo’s Times West Virginian high school player of the week and will receive a coupon for a free appetizer from Applebee’s of Fairmont.
