The Fairmont Senior girls’ lacrosse team started its season in impressive fashion Thursday.
Adrianna Constable scored four goals and Maddie Craig netted three to propel the Polar Bears to a dominant 17-4 win at Wheeling Park.
“The kids have been chomping at the big to get on the field,” said Fairmont Senior coach Jon Cain. “You could tell that in their excitement before the game, and it showed on the field.”
In addition to the two hat tricks, several others also turned in multi-goal performances. Maddie Stevenski, Mariah Allen and Reina Edwards scored two goals each.
Megan Wilt, Sofia Sansalone, Sarah Topardo and Tressa Bonasso also added a goal apiece.
Cain said that the plethora of scoring options is exactly what the team hoped for.
“We want everybody to be involved. When you have a lot of goal scorers, other teams don’t know where it’s coming from,” he said.
The coach added that the defense also stepped up to provide support for sophomore goalie Rainy Heston, who is filling the void created when four-year all-state goalie Isabella Leon graduated.
“They only gave up four goals to a team with a lot of strong players,” Cain said. “They kept the ball in front of the net and played a lot of double-team defense.”
The Polar Bears will look to continue their success Monday when they travel to Latrobe, Pa.
