Huskies on top after day one of regional

— Marion County is proving its wrestling prowess at the Region I A/AA Wrestling Tournament.

After day one of the two-day event at Woody Williams Armory, North Marion leads the 13-team field with 102 points. Oak Glen is second, followed by Fairmont Senior (56.50) and East Fairmont (54.00).

For North Marion, Joe Efaw, Ryan Elliott, Kyle Elliott, Austin Stanley, Ryan Arnett, Andrew Lewis, Gavin Barker, Jakob Guy, Tyler Arnett and Roger Cummings went a perfect 1-0. Caleb Kuhn advanced via a first-round bye. Chance Haught went 2-1 and Justin O’Dell went 1-1.

For Fairmont Senior, Chris Carvillano, Brent Wyne, Anthony Alvaro, Jaron Summers, Vincent Delligatti and Brent Barber went 1-0 and Justin Wells went 1-2.

And for East Fairmont, Daynon Foster, Dalton Michael, Hayden Stewart and Cam Stewart finished undefeated at 1-0. Mike Moore and Matt Hopwood went 1-1. Jordan Leonard won two and lost one.

The tournament continues today at Woody Williams Armory. The championship semi-finals begin at 10:30 a.m. and the finals are slated for 2:30 p.m.
