When Fairmont Senior’s Taylor Campbell took to the water rather than the basketball court this season, it was hard to predict the type of season he’d have.
Now, as his first season in the pool is in the books, he walks away with some hardware.
At the West Virginia Swimming Championships, Campbell took first place in the 100-yard freestyle event, breaking the school record in the process with a time of 48.30. In addition to the win, he was a part of the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay teams that placed fourth and seventh, respectively, en route to being named to the All-State team.
A week prior, Campbell was named to the All-Region swim team as he won the 100-yard freestyle, setting a poll record. He helped his 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams win, too, leading to a first place overall finish for Fairmont Senior.
For his record-setting week, Campbell was voted this week’s I-79 Joe Romeo’s Times West Virginian high school player of the week and will receive a coupon for a free appetizer from the Applebee’s of Fairmont.
