Ten minutes left, one goal down and the clock furiously ticking away Tuesday night, there was every reason to believe time might have run out on Fairmont Senior’s girls’ soccer season.
The thing is, the Polar Bears never stopped believing.
“That’s what makes soccer so exciting. Sometimes you just can’t tell what’s going to happen,” Fairmont Senior coach Debbie Cattafesta said.
That was certainly the case in Tuesday’s Class AA-A state semifinal against PikeView, as the Polar Bears erased a one-score deficit with two goals in the final 9:43 en route to a stirring 2-1 victory at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex.
Next up for Fairmont Senior (15-8-1) is Big 10 rival Bridgeport, which beat Charleston Catholic in Tuesday’s other semifinal, today at noon for the state title.
