PLEASANT VALLEY —
The banner that hangs in the East Fairmont gym says, “Welcome to the hive of the killer Bees.”
For the East Fairmont varsity volleyball squad, it should read “Welcome to the hive of the battling Bees,” after their 3-2 win over the Lincoln Lady Cougars on Thursday.
“We’re so young, we have to battle for everything. Every win we get is just a plus for us. It just makes them hungry for the next one,” coach Debra Spears said.
It was freshman Lauryn Antolock who would emerge as just one cog in the Bees’ engine on Thursday night, as twice she led the Bees to victory with consecutive aces to close out the game.
“Lauryn’s got a cool head,” Spears said after the match. “I’m impressed. She doesn’t get shook up. Nothing seems to intimidate her right now.”
