Ex-Polar Bears continue winning tradition

FAIRMONT — The boys at Fairmont Senior weren’t the only ones to play in the “big game” this season.

Ex-Polars Bears baseball players Franklin Wilson and Tre Kerns also took the diamond in a championship game May 19 as members of Potomac State, a junior college in Keyser.

In the first round of the Eastern District tournament, the Potomac State Catamounts were up 9-5 in the final inning against Spartanburg Methodist. But a couple hits and errors got pieced together and soon the Catamounts found themselves down 11-9.

“Winning that first game would have put us in the driver’s seat,” Kerns said. “So losing that game after we were already up kind of stunk.”
