Trowbridge 15th; FSHS second at Geico Invitational

FAIRMONT — When it comes to birthday presents, some girls might ask for a pony. Others may want clothes, jewelry or a new cellphone.

Taylor Trowbridge settled for a cross country medal Saturday. The North Marion freshman took 15th on her 14th birthday at the Geico Classic Cross Country Invitational at Cabell Midland. Her time of 22:13 earned Trowbridge the special birthday present.

“I was hoping I could get 14th so I could be the same as my age,” she said. “But 15th is good enough. My goal for this race was to get top 15 and I made it right on the cut I wanted to.”

One to grow on, perhaps.
