Seniors shine as East blasts Philip Barbour, 49-25

FAIRMONT — East Fairmont’s seniors celebrated in the best way possible Friday night at East-West Stadium as they were able to down Philip Barbour, 49-25.

The Bees’ seniors accounted for 423 of the team’s 504 total yards of offense.

East Fairmont started fast, jumping out to 21-9 halftime lead behind quarterback Jake Delaney’s two touchdown passes, one to Myles Johnson for 22 yards and one to senior Scotty Shroyer for 69 yards.

Delaney completed all five of his first-half passes for 91 yards.

All three seniors who lined up in the backfield, Shroyer, Ronnie Mills and Matt Hopwood, were seemingly running at will against the Colts. The three of them were able to rack up a combined 262 yards on the ground; 161 of those yards came in the second half.

Philip Barbour’s offense seemed hindered without top receiver Al Johnson, and the Colts turned to running backs Morgan Stalnaker and Dylan Johnson to carry the load.

While they piled up the yards, 234 between the two of them, they weren’t able to keep up with East Fairmont’s scoring offense.

Whenever the Colts did manage to score, the Bees answered quickly and definitively.

The Colts pulled the score within five at the start of the second half after an interception, but Delaney answered with a 32-yard score to Shroyer to put the Bees ahead, 28-16.

When the final buzzer sounded, the seniors, along with the rest of the Bees, celebrated a 49-25 victory.

After falling behind, the Huskies proved that you can still take something away from a late-inning rally despite taking home an “L.”
