The top-seeded North Marion boys’ basketball team began sectional tournament play with a bang on Tuesday night, hitting 12 3-pointers en route to an 80-61 win over Oak Glen in the team’s Region I, Section 1 opener.
Matt Cain was again the tigger man. North’s standout senior guard finished with 33 points, including six 3-pointers.
As a whole, the Huskies connected on nine of their threes by halftime on Tuesday. They jumped out to a 25-10 lead after one period and stretched their lead to 41-27 by intermission.
In all, North (15-7) has won 10 of its last 13 games.
Chase Banker finished with 14, while Cody Opron had 11 and Cole Richards had 10. Matt Martin added six points and Kurt Rogers five.
Matt McLaughlin led Oak Glen (4-19) with 18.
North is back in action on Friday night when it hosts county rival Fairmont Senior for the sectional championship.
