East tennis splits with Polar Bears

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont split a pair of tennis matches Thursday, with Fairmont Senior winning the boys’ match and East Fairmont taking the girls’ competition.

In the Bees’ 6-1 girls’ victory, Cara Laswell took second singles, 8-2. Erica Gorman won third singles, 8-1. And Carrington Reese won fourth singles, 8-3.

Laswell and Reese teamed up for a 9-7 doubles victory. Gorman and Brittiany Brumage won, 8-2. And Ashley Grace and Marcie Corder picked up a win, 8-2. Fairmont Senior’s Alissa Link earned the lone girls’ victory for the Polar Bears, 8-5.

In boys’ action, Fairmont Senior came out on top, 5-2. All four singles players recorded wins for the Polar Bears thanks Logan Orton (8-0), Blake Hoke (8-4), Taylor Campbell (8-5) and Trey Giorcelli (9-8).

Orton and Hoke picked up an 8-0 doubles win, but East Fairmont took the final two doubles matches. Jordan Leonard and Zachary Henline won 9-8 and Isaac and Evan Flohr won 8-1.



o North Marion dropped a pair of matches at Philip Barbour Thursday.

C.J. Porter picked up an 8-6 win in No. 2 singles, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies fell, 6-1.

For the boys in a 5-2 defeat, No. 3 Shawn Humphreys earned an 8-5 win and No. 4 Ryan Childs coasted to an 8-1 victory in singles.

The No. 1 doubles team of Childs and Carl Nichols narrowly lost in a tie breaker, 7-5.
