FAIRMONT — o o o o o o

I’ll also use this space to say goodbye, as this will be my last article for the Times West Virginian. I am leaving Fairmont today to pursue some opportunities closer to home in the Pittsburgh area.

You live somewhere for five years and certain things tend to stick with you.

Like the shortcut to a ball field. The smell of a Country Club Bakery pepperoni roll. The unmistakable kick of a Yann dog. The feeling of your car going out of alignment after hitting another pothole (sorry, I had to mention it).

But, more than anything, you remember the people: coaches, players, administrators, co-workers, far too many to name.

People who care about the kids, care about the community and are the bright, never-dimming light on a town that has certainly seen better days.

They call Fairmont “The Friendly City” for a reason, and I’m not sure if a name has fit any better.

I’ll consider myself forever lucky to have been a part of it, if only for a little while.
