FAIRMONT — The 2013 West Virginia girls’ state basketball tournament schedule was released Thursday and Marion County’s two participants are on different sides of the bracket.

Their schedules for next week at the Charleston Civic Center couldn’t be more different, either.

Sixth-seeded North Marion, back in the tournament for the first time in two years, opens the Class AA schedule with a rise-and-shine 9:30 a.m. contest Thursday morning against No. 3 Nicholas County.

Fairmont Senior, meanwhile, earned the No. 5 seed in Class AA. The Polar Bears don’t open their state championship run until 9 p.m. Thursday when they take on No. 4 Clay County.

FSHS is making its first state tournament appearance on the girls’ side since 2006.

The other double-A girls’ games on Thursday include an all-Big 10 matchup when No. 2 Bridgeport faces No. 7 Lincoln at 1 p.m. Top-ranked Westside plays No. 8 PikeView at 5:30 p.m.

If the Huskies advance, they’d play the Bridgeport-Lincoln winner at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. If the Polar Bears win their first-round game, they’d play the Westside-PikeView winner at 7:15 p.m. that same night.

The Class AA girls’ state final is secheduled at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.

Class A and AAA tournament play begins Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
