All three Marion County teams kicked off the wrestling season Friday and Saturday at the Hedgesville Duals.
At the end of the competition, nine wrestlers remain undefeated. Fairmont Senior’s Vincent Delligatti (10-0), Anthony Alvaro (10-0), Brent Barber (8-0) and Brad Wyne (7-0) were all perfect, as were North Marion’s Ryan Elliott (10-0), Tyler Arnett (10-0) and Austin Stanley (9-0) and East Fairmont’s Dalton Michael (10-0) and Hayden Stewart (10-0).
Each school wrestled 10 teams from Virginia and West Virginia. North Marion was the winningest of the three county teams. The Huskies won their first eight before dropping their final two matches. Leading the way were Joe Efaw (8-2, 3 pins), Caleb Kuhn (6-3, 4 pins), Kyle Elliott (8-1, 4 pins), Justin Efaw (8-2, 6 pins), Gavin Barker (6-3, 5 pins), Andrew Lewis (four wins, 2 pins), Chance Haught (8-2, 5 pin) and Noah Redmond (6-4, 3 pins).
East Fairmont finished the weekend at 6-4. In addition to Michael and Stewart’s undefeated showings, the Bees were led by Gianni Vandetta (7-3), Brody Nesslerotte (7-3, 5 pins), Cam Stewart (7-3, 3pins), Daniel Hopkins (7-3, 6 pins), Matt Hopwood (6-4, 4 pins), Daynon Foster (6-4, 5 pins). Teague Seccuro added four wins; Billy Johnson, Jacob Carder and Shaun Willey posted three wins apiece; and Trent Flemming won one.
Fairmont Senior finished the first day 3-2 and went 1-4 the second day. In addition to the four perfect performances, the Polar Bears were led Brent Wyne (9-1), Braden Mick (8-2), Chris Carvillano (6-4), Jarrod Bosley (5-5), Justin Wells (4-4) and Tre Lewis (3 wins).
