Bridgeport, Bonamico running away from Big 10

FAIRMONT — The ground-and-pound running game has served Bridgeport's football team well for as long as one can remember.

Down and distance doesn't matter when you have the type of rushers the Indians have bred.

Anthony Bonamico is the latest to take his position in that vaunted backfield, and he turned in one of the week’s best performances against Keyser.

Bonamico rushed for 239 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns in the Indians’ rout of Keyser over the weekend.

As the season begins to wind down and the playoff races heat up, so do the battle for the conference leaders.

Bonamico is still the Big 10’s leading rusher with 1,194 yards and is the only conference player with over 1,000 yards rushing on the season.

Lincoln’s Ty Seibel is closing in on that plateau with 947 yards, and Fairmont Senior's Noah Harmon is third with 887 yards.

Lewis County’s Mark Metzgar (635) and Preston’s Josiah Nuse (627) round out the conference’s Top 5 rushers.

The rest of the Top 10 include Philip Barbour’s Dylan Johnson (624), Bridgeport’s A.C. Caldera (586), North Marion’s Ryan Elliott (476) and Elkins’ Dylan Lucas (473) and Morgan Kelly (463).

The East Fairmont Bees are led by Scotty Shroyer with 229 yards.

Fairmont Senior's Austin Norman broke 1,000 yards passing for the season, but still trails conference leader Jarrod Kellar of Lincoln.

Kellar continues to put up big numbers through the air and has 1,613 on the season. Norman has 1,077, and the two are the only ones in four digits.

Norman does lead the Big 10 in touchdown passes with an even dozen.

Kellar and Preston's Scott Stone, who is third with 864 yards passing, both have nine TD passes.

East Fairmont's Jake Delaney is fourth with 796 yards, and Grafton's Cole Collins is in fifth with 632.

North Marion's leading passer is Kyle Elliott with 126 yards on the season.
