Fairmont Senior High School’s baseball team leveled Braxton County in the Class AA semi-regionals Tuesday evening, 11-0.
The Polar Bears were led by their cleanup hitter, Johnny Kesling, and starting pitcher, Fletcher DeVaul.
For DeVaul, this game was different. Usually, head coach Steve Naternicola waits to tell his team who’s going to be on the mound the day of the game, but Naternicola switched it up a bit. On Monday evening, Naternicola told DeVaul the game was his and then handed him the ball.
“I came prepared during the day, instead of goofing off all day,” DeVaul said. “Today, I was a little more focused. I just wanted to get through every inning. I wanted to have Matt (Robbins), (Andrew) Strand or BP (Brandon Plivelich ) be ready to go on Thursday.”
