Fairmont Senior earns preseason No. 1 ranking

FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior is the preseason king of fall.

Last week, the Class AA high school preseason football rankings were released and the Polar Bears were on top of the list.

Though the ranking may come as a surprise to some, for the Polar Bears, it’s just added motivation to seek their first state championship since 1946.

“We don’t want to be complacent where we’re at — we can’t be happy where we’re at,” Fairmont Senior’s starting linebacker/running back Luke Hrapchak said during the Polar Bears’ media day on Thursday. “We haven’t done anything yet this season. All that we need to do is get better each day and try to be the best we can be.”

With all of the hype and the hoopla heading into this season, the Polar Bears are trying to stay on an even keel.
