EFHS softball outlasts Grafton: PHOTOS

Lady Polar Bears fall to Elkins

PLEASANT VALLEY — East Fairmont’s softball team was able to outlast Grafton Tuesday night, picking up a 6-4 win in the process.

Tori Postlewait continued to lead the way for the Lady Bees in the circle and at the dish.

The senior dual-threat pitched all seven innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six batters. All four of Grafton’s runs were unearned.

At the plate, Postlewait went 2-for-2 with a double and a home run, driving in four of the team’s six runs. After her second at-bat, she was intentionally walked twice.

The Lady Bees started early, tacking on four runs before taking a 6-0 lead. Grafton, though, would battle back with a four-run fourth to keep it close.

“We got to the fourth inning and gave up four unearned runs and let them back in the ball game,” East coach John Postlewait said. “We got back in it defensively and then shut them down from there.”

Also contributing in the win for East were Bailey Frederick, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Leeanna Downey, who went 2-for-3 with the other RBI. Also posting singles were Hannah Ferrell, Sydney Postlewait, Cassidy Toothman, Brooklyn Nuzum and Maggie Hall.

The Lady Bees move to 2-2 on the season and will be back in action Thursday to take on Elkins at home.

For Fairmont Senior, a young team couldn’t overcome Elkins as the Lady Polar Bears lost, 22-1, on the road.

“The positive thing is that they didn’t give up,” Fairmont Senior coach Josh Leep said of his team. “They kept trying even though they were down the whole time.”

Alexis Richardson provided the lone RBI on a single for Fairmont Senior. Cheyenne Phillips went 2-for-2, hitting two singles in the game, also.

“I’ve seen dedication and hard work from those two,” Leep said. “They’re both juniors and playing new positions. They’ve adjusted pretty well to it.”

The Lady Polar Bears fall to 0-3 and will take on Buckhannon-Upshur at home Thursday.
