In a game between the East Fairmont Bees and Williamstown Yellow Jackets, the Bees stung first.
Then they swarmed.
Ian Hayhurst, Colin Harvath and Levi Perkins scored for East Fairmont as the Bees rolled to an easy 3-0 victory at East-West Stadium on Tuesday night.
In the second game of the evening, East Fairmont’s girls’ team tied Trinity, 1-1. Haleigh McDougal netted the goal for the Bees.
“We played the way that we planned to play,” East Fairmont boys’ soccer coach Fred Roman said. “We trained (Monday) to possess the ball a little bit more and see a little more patience. Down the road, that patience will pay off.”
It showed Tuesday. The Bees (2-2-1) held the ball in Williamstown territory for nearly the entire game. They led the Yellow Jackets in corner kicks, 7-1. And probably most impressively, they took 17 shots and didn’t let Williamstown take a single one.
“Keep the pressure on and play excellent defense — it’s been our moniker at East Fairmont for years,” Roman said. “It was really nice to solidify the back. I tried a couple different formation changes and got the boys out of their comfort zone at times. But they made great adjustments and just played great ball all night.”
