Madison Haught scores three as North girls rout South Harrison

Boys fall in game two

FAIRMONT — Thunder, lightning and heavy rain swooped through parts of Marion County Wednesday, leaving the soccer field at Fairview Middle School just a tad bit sloppy. The North Marion girls’ performance, however, was anything but.

The Huskies were crisp and efficient en route to a 9-3 victory over South Harrison. Madison Haught led the way with a hat trick and Shelby King had two goals, as the Huskies won for the second time in as many days.

“I told her to tip her hat,” King said of Haught’s three-goal performance. “I was excited for her.”

After McKenzy Fisher got things started in just the third minute for the Huskies, Madison Haught netted back to back goals.

“I have two forwards who are very quick, Madie and McKenzy,”  North Marion coach Steve Rodriguez said of his two all-state track stars.

  • University hands Huskies first loss; East edges Elkins

The mercy rule has been a familiar part of North Marion’s softball season.
Through the first seven games, the Huskies regularly pounded their opponents with stingy defense, sharp pitching and timely hitting. Rarely did a game go all seven innings for the previously undefeated team.

  • North Marion’s rally falls short

North Marion had all the pieces in place for a thrilling come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon.
The four runs in the bottom of the seventh. The tying runner on third and the Huskies’ fastest player on second. Even the clear-blue sky on the mid-70s afternoon was the perfect stage for a comeback.

It ain’t over till it’s over.
North Marion (3-4) proved that, despite falling to Elkins, 13-8, during its home opener Thursday night from North Marion High School.
After falling behind, the Huskies proved that you can still take something away from a late-inning rally despite taking home an “L.”
