Alvaro continues strong surge on mat for FSHS
Among his goals for this wrestling season, Fairmont Senior’s Anthony Alvaro wanted to get back to the state wrestling tournament. To do that, he needed to get past regionals.
Five county wrestlers capture titles
On the final day of wrestling for the 2013-14 season, five wrestlers from Marion County were able to solidify themselves into West Virginia wrestling history and bring home state titles.
Fairmont Senior, which tied for fifth as a team in the tournament, had three wrestlers come home with championships while another placed fourth.

Fairmont Senior’s junior dup of Kaden Whaley and Emily Stoller knew they needed to step up.
And that’s just what they did, leading No. 1 Fairmont Senior over No. 2 North Marion, 84-71, to capture the Region I, Section I championship Friday night from the Woody Williams Armory.
Seven in state wrestling finals
After two full days of wrestling from the Big Sandy Arena in Huntington, seven wrestlers from Marion County are just one win away from a state championship.
Fairmont Senior has three wrestlers with their eyes on titles as Anthony Alvaro, Vincent Delligatti and Brent Barber each won their matches on Friday.
FSHS overcomes Grafton on the road
After a sluggish first half ended in a 25-21 lead for Grafton, Fairmont Senior came back to overcome the Bearcats, 58-53 on the road. Darhius Nunn and Tavon Horton combined for 43 points to lead the Polar Bears to victory.
Greely leads Bees past Webster: PHOTOS
East Fairmont’s boys’ basketball team wanted to end its regular season on a high note. On Thursday night at East Fairmont High School, the Bees ended their season in a crescendo with a victory over Webster County to the tune of 70-58.

Darhius Nunn stole the basketball and launched up a prayer.
His NBA-range 3-pointer bounced off the back rim and soared high into the air, suspended in time like a slow-motion scene from an overly dramatic sports movie.
Day one at wrestling state tournament complete
Day one of the state wrestling tournament from the Big Sandy Arena in Huntington are complete for 22 wrestlers from Marion County.
North Marion leads the county going 8-1 on the first day of action.

After the final shot was taken and the last seconds ticked off the clock, Bachman Turner Overdrive’s “Taking Care of Business” blared through the speakers at North Marion High School, providing the soundtrack to the celebration.

Fairmont Senior’s girls’ basketball team has made a habit of blowing out its opponents this season.
Wednesday was no different.
The Polar Bear team that outscored opponents by an average of 30 points during the regular season continued that trend in the sectional tournament.
