Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College want to welcome in the new school year with a party.
And you’re invited.
A triple-bill concert featuring hip hop artist Flo Rida, alternative rock band Saving Jane and country singer Derrick McKee will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the Feaster Center. Tickets are $20 for currently enrolled FSU and Pierpont students. Call 368-7234 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. to order tickets.
Although part of the schools’ Welcome Weekend, the concert is also open to the general public. Tickets are $30.
“This is an annual event,” Persis Bates, special events coordinator for student affairs at Fairmont State, said of Welcome Weekend.
The intent is to focus on the approximately 700 incoming freshmen and other new residence hall students
“It’s an ice breaker,” Bates added. “One hundred student volunteers team up to introduce the freshmen to the campus, staff and faculty.”
Flo Rida’s first single, “Low,” was a successful cross-over to Top 40 radio, Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hot RingMasters, Soundscan’s Digital Song, iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, MySpace, MTV’s TRL, BET’s 106 & Park before the release of his Poe Boy/Atlantic Records debut, “MAIL ON SUNDAY.”
His video for “Low” has been nominated for Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video for the MTV Video Music Awards. For more information on Flo Rida, visit www.officialflo.com/
