It’s the time of year for the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation to host the annual harvest festival and antique fair.
The festival, which focuses on 18th century foods, will take place at Pricketts Fort from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Greg Bray, the executive director of the foundation, said the event has been taking place for about a decade and that it typically draws a couple hundred people to Pricketts Fort.
Bray said the good weather that is predicted for this weekend should entice people to come out to the park, enjoy the crisp fall air and take in the beautiful autumn scenery.
“We encourage people to come out and enjoy the park this weekend,” Bray said. “It will be nice outside, and it may be the last time people will be able to picnic this year.”
The festival will feature numerous activities that can be enjoyed by people of any age.
Bray said children will have an opportunity to make corn husk dolls and duck decoys.
In addition, Bray said there will be a number of food demonstrations and a beer-making exhibit. There will also be displays about wild game, food production, harvest, food preservation, cooking, and customs and manners.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Almost a Song, the Kennedy Barn String Band, Lynette Swiger and Acme Tunes. Bray said the bands will perform on the porch of the Job Prickett House.
During the festival, the antique fair will be held inside the visitor center and will include items from vendors such as Sweet Memories Antique Mall.
“There will be a little bit of everything from furniture to tools to jewelry,” Bray said.
Bray said there is no cost to enter the visitors center and look at the antiques, but a tour of the historic fort and festival attractions requires a ticket. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children and seniors, and $4 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under 6 and Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation members get in free.
All proceeds go back to Pricketts Fort.
